Father Mérer School was named after St. Albert's priest, Michel Mérer, OMI, at the time of the school's construction. The school is commonly called the Brick School. Construction of the school began in 1906 by George and Ed Poirier who were contractors. Father Mérer School was located on the northwest corner of Mission Park, on the hill just off St. Vital. The four room school was opened in 1909, used until 1958 and demolished in 1960.
