Series consists of photographs collected by the St. Albert Historical Society and some photographs from St. Albert Historical Society and City of St. Albert events.

Father Mérer School

Father Mérer School was named after St. Albert's priest, Michel Mérer, OMI, at the time of the school's construction. The school is commonly called the Brick School. Construction of the school began in 1906 by George and Ed Poirier who were contractors. Father Mérer School was located on the northwest corner of Mission Park, on the hill just off St. Vital. The four room school was opened in 1909, used until 1958 and demolished in 1960.

Vital Grandin Centre

Image depicts the residence used by Bishop Vital Grandin, OMI and his staff. Construction of the building began in 1883 and was completed in 1887. The building is also called the Bishop's Palace. The building was covered in brick veneer in 1922, used by the Oblate Fathers and the parish of St. Albert until 1975.

Train crash

Image shows train crash en route to Lac Ste. Anne. A freight train loaded with logs was rammed from behind by an excursion train carrying pilgrims to Lac Ste. Anne. Photograph was taken at about 4:00 a.m.

Skating rink

Image shows the skating rink located on St. Anne Street behind the 1980's Sturgeon Electric store. The land was donated to the town by the Federal Government through the efforts of Mrs. Nora Donlevy, town Secretary-Treasurer. The former North West Mounted Police barracks in the background was used as a place to change skates and to warm up.

Hogan family

Family photograph shows Mrs. Blanche Hogan and Michael Hogan, front centre. Behind them are their four children, from left to right: John, Evelyn, Leo, and Frank. Michael Hogan served as mayor of St. Albert from 1919 - 1943.

Harvesting oats on the Kluthe farm

Image depicts cutting oats with a binder on the Kluthe farm in 1923. Joseph Kluthe went to Germany in 1923, and because of the economic conditions there, he brought back four male relatives. This picture was taken with Conrad Sprenger, Joseph's brother-in-law, the day after they arrived. From left to right: Fritz Altmix, Conrad Sprenger, John Meyer, Archie ?, and Joe Kluthe. George Kluthe is seated on the binder behind Fritz Altmix.
