Burmis Tree near Crowsnest Pass

There are also variations of one particular picture of the tree in the shadow, with different colour filters for the sunset background, such as orange, red, and blue. There is one photograph of the tree with some vegetation.
The Burmis Tree was a limber pine that was estimated to be between 600 and 750 years old before it died in the late 1970s after losing its needles. Despite being toppled by wind in 1998 and being vandalized in 2004, the local community has worked to keep the tree upright and it remains a tourist destination.
Victor Post took photographs of this tree early in his career and also during his travel Alberta trips in the 1980s to photograph the countryside of Alberta. He used various versions of the Burmis Tree photographs for his ham radio call-signs. He also used some of the images on the Treasury Branch calendar and possibly also for other provincial brochures and advertising.
Also included are some photographs of the mountains in the distance over sunset and a photograph of the Back to God Chapel in Bellevue, Alberta, which is in the Municipality of Crowsnest Pass.
