St. Albert Citizen's Committee car in anti-annexation parade

This photograph depicts the St. Albert Citizen's Committee car in the St. Albert Anti-annexation parade held in March or April 1981. This Committee was formed by Richard Plain (President- Chairman), John Welsh (Vice President), Diane Prector (Secretary), Norbert Van Wyk (Treasurer), Lorraine Shelemy (Coordinator), Louise and Walter Zuk, members. The aim of the Committee was to prevent St. Albert's annexation by Edmonton.

Annexation ads

File consists of 2 public service advertisements broadcast over the radio about annexation of communities surrounding Edmonton. The tape contains pro-annexation ads done by radio stations. Two of the ads are called Annexation Quiz and Brochure respectively. The cassette on which it was recorded and a digital copy of the audio recordings are included.

Edmonton Sun annexation cartoon

This file consists of a framed cartoon signed by Yardley-Jones, Edmonton Sun. The cartoon depicts Santa Claus with a line-up of children and Edmonton's mayor, Cecil "Cec" Purves, at the end of the line. The caption reads "If that kid on the end asks for Sherwood Park, St. Albert, Strathcona County or New Sarepta, give him a kick in his big, fat Medal of Office."

Beat the Bounds commemoration poster

This file consists of a poster commemorating the Beat the Bounds events on 15 Mar 1981. The poster consists of a scroll to Hugo C. Engler, signed by Mayor Richard Fowler. Hugo C. Engler was the photographer who captured the event on film. The scroll reads: "Be it Known that on March 15 in the year of the Lord 1981 Hugo C. Engler joined with other citizens of the City of St. Albert in a demonstration of support for the City of St. Albert and did Beat the Bounds as a show of public concern against the threat of annexation." There are 16 colour photographs pasted around the scroll, depicting various people and activities during the Beat the Bounds event.

On the back of the poster is a label that reads: "Presented to the City of St. Albert in Remembrance of Beating the Bounds March 15, 1981. A Ceremony to recognize the importance of boundaries to society and in particular to the Citizens of St. Albert. Presented by G.K. Allred, A.L.S. (Alderman City of St. Albert 1980- 86), Executive Director, Alberta Land Surveyors' Association."

This file consists of 106 volumes of transcripts from the Alberta Local Authorities Board hearing in the matter of the Municipal Government Act and in the matter of Edmonton's annexation application. The Chairman was J.V.H. Milvain, Esq. The Commissioners were R.W. Brown, Esq. and T.J. Lauder, Esq.
This file also includes two transcripts of cross-examination on affidavit of Joseph M. Sheckter on May 9, 1980 and Wayne Quinn on May 1, 1980. There is also a inquiry for expropriation on May 12, 1980.
